Oil mist is formed when high pressure oil is forced through a crack or fissure or when oil comes into contact with a hot surface, vaporising it. It is found most frequently in machining operations, where oil is used as a lubricant or for cooling purposes.

Improper LEV at these sites can be a serious risk to the health of employees and to the safety and efficiency of your shop floor.
Direct exposure to airborne oil mist can damage skin. If small enough, oil mist particles can also be absorbed into the bloodstream, causing serious respiratory issues. Likewise, if mist is allowed to settle, it can create a serious slipping hazard, as a near invisible film forms on hard surfaces. If it settles on electronic equipment like machine controls or computers can cause them to fail, resulting in costly repairs/replacements and lengthy periods of downtime.
