Nordfab EPD

Our ducting solution is suitable for green building construction

Nordfab ducting became EPD certified

At Nordfab, we aim to protect people, the planet, and production from pollution — and this goes hand-in-hand with sustainable manufacturing. The galvanised, stainless, and mild steel ducting manufactured by Nordfab EMEA come with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification — an independent, internationally recognised certification that provides full transparency about our environmental performance. The EPD explains how a product affects the environment throughout its entire life cycle, from raw materials and manufacturing to recycling at the end of use.

Setting a new standard in sustainable ducting

According to EPD, Nordfab demonstrates strong environmental performance in several key areas, including recyclability, low carbon emission from electricity use, and the absence of harmful substances.

  1. Recyclability is Nordfab’s strongest environmental advantage. Recycling steel significantly “pays back” the environmental cost of producing it. At the end of the product’s life, steel recycling saves energy and helps avoid considerable CO2 emissions and natural resource extraction. As Nordfab ducting is made entirely of steel — a material with the potential for full recyclability — its end‑of‑life impact is exceptionally favourable.
  2. Low electricity-related carbon emission is another important achievement. In industrial processes where electricity consumption is high, a low emission factor substantially reduces the total carbon footprint and therefore climate impact — in several times. While producing and packaging ductwork components, Nordfab mostly relies on wind (35,5%), natural gas (22,5%), and biomass (15,5%) to generate electricity, using hydro, solar, and waste energy as well. As a result, electricity related carbon emissions are low and almost equivalent to producing electricity only from renewable sources.
  3. Minimal waste generation from Nordfab products can be traced both to ducting manufacturing and steel production. The EPD shows zero hazardous or radioactive waste, while the amount of non‑hazardous waste is modest (≈ 0.0179 kg per kg of product). The ducting itself contains no hazardous, toxic, or restricted chemicals (Substances of Very High Concern), ensuring that the materials are safe to use.

It is also important that during operation, ducting has zero environmental burden: it consumes no energy, releases no emissions, and requires minimal maintenance that does not rely on additional resources.

All of this makes Nordfab’s ducting suitable for green building construction, simplifies carbon footprint assessments, and supports participation in public procurement requiring verified sustainability data.

Our benefits at a glance:

  • Environmentally responsible choice: lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional systems.
  • Fully recyclable product: supports circular economy goals and reduces waste.
  • Safe materials: contains no harmful chemicals.
  • Supports sustainable building goals: suitable for environmental declarations in construction projects.
  • Certified and trustworthy: EPD is independently verified and internationally recognized
